Profile

I'm Peyton Benfield. I am the modified special education teacher. I provide intervention services and support students through inclusion in their general education classrooms. This is my 11th year teaching, but my first at Alcoa Elementary School. Throughout my 11 years I have taught a myriad of things. My first year I taught students with moderate and severe or multiple disabilities at a special needs public school. Then for the next nine years I taught students with moderate to severe Autism at a different special needs public school. My classroom experience there ranges from Pre-K all the way to 5th grade and even includes a full year of virtual teaching after Covid.

I am married and we have one daughter. I also have a Great Dane who tops out at 197 lbs. We recently moved here from Jacksonville, Florida where I spent most of my life. However, I am no stranger to the area as I had family members attend and graduate from a neighboring district. I earned my Bachelor's in Special Education and my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Autism and Severe and Profound Disabilities from Florida State University.

I am so excited to be part of the Alcoa City Schools family and look forward to all this school year will bring! Go Tornados!
